Justin Newby, M.S.Ed., LSC
Licensed School Counselor
I am a school counselor at The Wellington School who currently works with early childhood and elementary-aged students, providing individual and small group support while also partnering closely with teachers and families. My experience in schools has given me a unique lens when working with children outside of the school setting. I understand the importance of looking at the whole child and considering the many factors that influence a child’s emotional, social, and behavioral development, including relationships, school experiences, family dynamics, and developmental needs.
Some of my strengths as a counselor include building trusting relationships with children, helping students identify and build on their strengths, supporting emotional regulation and coping skills, and collaborating with families and other professionals. I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where children feel heard, understood, and empowered to develop skills that they can carry into everyday life.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education from the University of Louisville. After eight years in education, I completed my master's degree in K–12 School Counseling through Indiana University. My counseling training includes Brief Solution-Focused Counseling, and I am currently working toward certification in Play Therapy.
I believe children are capable of meaningful growth when they feel supported, understood, and given the right tools. My goal is to partner with children and their families to help them navigate challenges, build confidence, and develop skills that support their emotional and social well-being.
